The Pillars of the Earth wins the prestigious Deutscher Spiele Preis 2007!
This month is an exciting one for Mayfair. Following our announcement about the re-release of the Catan line of games, we have learned that one of our recent releases has won a prestigious international award. The Pillars of the Earth™, designed by Michael Rieneck and Stefan Stadler, and based on the best-selling book by Ken Follett, has just received the prestigious Deutscher Spiele Preis (DSP or "German Game Prize") award for 2007. The Pillars of the Earth won by a large margin over many other excellent games in the top ten. Also in the top ten was Mayfair and DaVinci Game's Leonardo Da Vinci™, designed by Acchitocca.
Mayfair is especially proud of this victory because of what the award represents. The Spiel des Jahres (German Game of the Year) award is given to the best family game of the year. The DSP is awarded for "gamers' games" with particularly good or innovative gameplay. We were very excited to release The Pillars of the Earth, and now it is great to see critical recognition for a game we feel very passionate about.
The Pillars of the Earth is based on Ken Follett's best-selling historical fiction novel about the construction of Kingbridge Cathedral during the 12th Century. Players join together to help build Kingsbridge Cathedral. Using workmen and resources, players must deploy assets wisely to overcome unexpected difficulties and convert materials into victory points. The Pillars of the Earth is a fun and challenging medieval-themed game that is great for 2-4 players.
