Why We Do It!

There are lots of reasons we enjoy working at Mayfair Games. One of the better ones is receiving letters such as the one last week from a Settlers of Catan fan!

Capt. Danielle Johnson recently returned to the U.S. after a 15-month deployment in Iraq. A friend introduced her to The Settlers of Catan while overseas, and she participated in an increasingly-larger weekly Settlers night. As she puts it: "It was great having something to look forward to after a hard day. It also made us feel like normal people, not soldiers, even though we were still in uniform and carried our rifles around with us. During the last few months, this game kept me from going crazy."

The story doesn't stop here. Now back in Seattle, she and her friends formed a team for the Seattle Oyster Race, a multi-discipline race held in September to benefit the Arthritis Foundation. As the accompanying photos show, they went with a Settlers theme for their team, down to their groupies ("Sheep" and "Brick"). Their team even came in third place in their division!

Thanks to Capt. Johnson for her story, and for the reminder that we have many ways to support our troops, even if it as simple as going about our daily jobs.
