The World Wide Catan Championship at PAX East continued it's search for contestants to compete for a seat to represent the U.S. The tournament began Saturday, March 27, 2010, with 41 people participating in the first round of the event. After hours of competition, the top 16 players moved on to the semifinal round on Sunday morning. After almost 2 hours, four contestants had earned their spot in the final round. These four were competing for a complimentary trip to the Origins Game Fair in Columbus, OH on the June 23-27 weekend, a semifinal seat in the WWCC Qualifier at Origins, and a chance to win a trip to Germany to represent the U.S. in the Worldwide Catan Championships.
The board was set, starting position determined, and initial placement began for the Finals Round. The contestants took time examining the board and placing their pieces to put them in the best position to win. Two hours of rolling, building, and trading ensued. At the end of the game Joe OBrien won the game, the tournament and the trip to Columbus. Final Standings were: Joe Obrien - 1st place, Brandon Rahhal - 2nd place, Christine Shourt - 3rd place, Anna Pinkert - 4th place.

At the end of the tournament, almost everyone was surprised by the consolation prize that was given to our 3rd place contestant, Christine. As she stood up from the table, her boyfriend got on one knee and presented her with a diamond engagement ring and a proposal for marriage. She accepted. From all of us at Mayfair Games, we congratulate all of our players, especially Joe and Christine!

As this point Settlers of America™ will be available only in English from Mayfair Games. (3-4 players, ages 10+, 60-90 minutes, approx. $55)
